Honestly I’m not sure how much I know about Japanese culture and I wonder if it’s true whether only Japanese can’t put the traditional costume on by theirselves.
According to a book 『ついに愛国心のタブーから解き放たれる日本人(Kent Sidney Gilbert)』 when the author asked Japanese “Do you like your country??” Most of them answered “yes”. On the other hand, when he threw a question “Do you have patriotism??” Nobody said YES.
Personally I also imagine a loud propaganda cars of Japanese right wing and feel a bit offensive when I hear patriotism. That’s definitely not positive.Even though you can find some Japanese TV programs feature Japanese who work for foreign societies, acquire traditional skills.
Perhaps lower voting rate’s effected by this fact.
I’ve been feeling the same things on current Japanese education. Recently we’ve tended to focus on lifestyle, educational system from abroad especially from Northern Europe. I’m agree there’re many attractive effective ways for children. But I’d like to say,
Why don’t we reflect on our own way to bring up, teach children??
Origami,
Cleaning up,
Greeting manners
Foods,
Japanese lalabyes,
Onomatopoeia,
Security measures for disaster,(No children who were at nursery dead by Tsunami at the time of Tohoku earthquake)
There many things we should relearn and take over to next generation.
